Press Release – Enoc Perez

After the exhibition of the designer Friso Kramer, the Catherine Houard Gallery is presenting the work of the portorican artist Enoc Perez, from March 13- May 18, 2013.

We can recognize immediately the paintings of Enoc Perez, by their composition and their subject. Famous for his pieces representing urban buildings, the artist had develop for 20 years, his very specific method of working, inspired by color printing.

He will start by sketching some prepatory drawings, each of a different color that he wants to be part on his final canvas. Then, he will apply the oil paint on the other side of each drawing and press it on the canvas to transfer the color on it.

From October 16th to December 15th ,2012, Catherine Houard Gallery presents “Le Sourire de Condo”, an exhibition of inedits works by George Condo.

The paintings and drawings of George Condo, that date from the years 2000 from private collections, are exposed on both floors of the Gallery: striking pieces such as “The Nun” (2007) and “The Priest” (2007), rare “diptyque” by the artist.

Le grand cinéaste italien, Ettore Scola produit depuis près de quarante ans une œuvre généreuse, exigeante et populaire à la fois.

Ettore Scola n’exerce pas seulement son art de l’observation caméra en main. Avant d’être réalisateur, Scola a été caricaturiste au journal satirique Italien “Marc’Aurelio”, viviers des futurs monstres du grand cinéma italien dont Fellini. Scola en a gardé un art du trait incisif, provocateur et plein d’humour. Il croque ses contemporains d’un trait fin et précis, avec ses personnages obèses ou filiformes, ses situations tragi-comiques, et son sens poétique de l’absurde.

À la source même de son inspiration, cette exposition permet donc de mieux comprendre le travail d’auteur de ce grand cinéaste italien. Montré pour la première fois à Paris, cette exposition exceptionnelle réunit plus de 60 ans de dessins originaux à l’encre de chine dont des dessins réalisés en marge de ses scénarios. En 2008, l’artiste fut exposé au centre d’art d’Enghien-les-Bains puis en 2009 à la Villa Médicis à Rome.

Après l’exposition Dean Tavoularis, la Galerie Catherine Houard continue ainsi son exploration des artistes visionnaires naviguant entre différentes disciplines, entre l’art pur et le cinéma.

Ettore Scola recevra le Prix SACD 2012 pour l’ensemble de son oeuvre en juin à Paris.

A l’occasion de la conférence de presse du Festival Paris Cinéma (qui fêtera sa 10e édition cette année), Bertrand Delanoë, Maire de Paris, remettra en premier lieu, la Grande Médaille de Vermeil de la Ville à Ettore Scola.

Une projection exceptionnelle d’ “Une journée particulière” (1977) sera organisée le samedi 9 juin 2012 à la Cinémathèque Française suivie d’un dialogue entre Ettore Scola et Serge Toubiana.
